I hope you are all having a wonderful start to summer, staying healthy and safe, and not going too stir-crazy! I will be sending several updates over the summer about what school will look like in the fall. With the goal of welcoming students into our building on August 19, we are working hard to prepare the space and develop our new protocols. At this time, I have two pieces of new information to share.
Snack and Lunch Updates
Due to COVID-19, we have made the decision that Rockwern will be discontinuing its food service program for the 2020-2021 school year. With student safety as our highest priority, students will be eating lunch in their classrooms. Because of that and related safety, staffing, financial, and logistical considerations, we will be asking all students to pack lunch in the coming year. As always, lunch does not need to be kosher, but does need to be vegetarian. We will also be asking families to provide snacks for your children, and we will send more details about all of this as we get closer to the school year. The ECEC lunch fee will be waived for 2020-2021 and removed from your financial obligations.
We know that having snacks and lunch provided by Rockwern has been a significant convenience for families in the past. We hope that you can understand why our protocols need to be different this year, and we appreciate your patience as we navigate this new normal.
Before Care and After Care Updates
We are pleased to share that Rockwern will continue to provide Before Care (starting at 7 AM each morning) and After Care (until 6 PM on Mondays-Thursdays and until 5 PM on Fridays). However, there is a strong possibility that we will not be able to accommodate this care on a drop-in basis.
As in the past, there is a charge for After Care and you can enroll for 2, 3, or 5 days/week. There is no charge for Before Care, and you can use it between 1-5 days/week.
We are asking families to commit by July 1 by clicking here and completing this form in order to reserve your spot for Before and/or After Care. We may not be able to accommodate requests that come in after July 1, though we will do our best. While we certainly hope to be able to offer this care on a drop-in basis, we cannot guarantee it at this time, especially for After Care. We know that Rockwern’s flexibility has been a tremendous asset, and we appreciate your understanding as we need to move to scenarios where we do not have daily changes in student groupings. We have not yet made a decision about other after school activities.
We wanted to share these two pieces of information with you now so that you are prepared for what to expect. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at

Wishing you the best,
